The works in this show are all monotypes. The images are created on a clear plate using etching ink, litho-ink and oil paint. An image is produced by rolling thin layers of ink on the plate. Other tools such as paintbrushes, rags and cardboard strips are also used to manipulate the drawing.

Ink is applied or removed until the desired image is created. This process allows many colors to be applied in building a final image. When the plate is ready with an image, paper is registered on the plate and cranked through the litho press. A single print is produced. The plate can then be reworked with new ink for a new image and printed.

The natural physical world, plant life, biology, and geology serve as inspiration for these prints. By using the fluid nature of the paint/ink application in creating these images, liquid in its many forms and states is brought to mind – mist, clouds, seas, streams, blood, sap, fog, to name a few.

The transparent nature of the medium allow repeating and layering of the drawing. Forms are drawn with both micro and macro scale as a possibility. Up and down are often not determined until after the print is pulled. The images are meant to surprise, drawing the viewer in for further investigation. Is it plant or animal? Are they microscopic or as large as planets?
